Fort St. Angelo, Hagar Qim, Valletta Jeff and Faye's friend Rosette takes them to Fort St. Angelo, and to the megalithic ruins at Hagar Qim and Mnajdra. Then they take a last walk around Valletta, and attend a performance at the historic Manoel theater. |
They first struggle through heavy traffic and labyrinthine
streets to reach Fort St. Angelo, directly across the harbor
from Faye and Jeff's hotel. They are able to explore much
of the old fort, admire the spectacular views, and talk
to guides dressed in period costumes.
A new Colliseum has been built, for the movie "Gladiator".
Filming starts on Monday, and thousands of extras will be hired.
Then they drive to the ruins of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra. These
awesome megalithic temples predate Stonehenge and the Pyramids
of Egypt.
The ruins are situated on hills with panoramic views of
the Mediterranean Sea and the islet of Filfla.
The idyllic site was somewhat spoiled by the presence of
the "kaccatur", men who call themselves hunters, but who
actually seem dedicated to eliminating all live birds
(except pigeons) from Malta.
Caged finches, used as decoys by the kaccatur.
After lunch Rosette drops Faye and Jeff back at Valletta,
where they take a farewell stroll through the city.
Carmelite church, Valletta.
Faye and Jeff celebrate there last night by attending a very good
local production of the musical play "Anything Goes" at the
historic Manoel theatre.
