Valletta and Sliema Jeff and Faye explore Valletta, visiting the Grand Masters' Palace and St. Johns Co-Cathedral. In the evening, they travel across the harbor to Sliema. |
Jeff and Faye spend the day exploring Valletta. They start the day with a visit to the Grand Master's Palace.
The armory museum contains armor, ordnance, firearms and a many fierce-looking pointed weapons, from
both the Knights and their Turkish enemies
The state rooms and the corridors of the Grand Master's Palace are resplendent with paintings, tapestries,
chandeliers, suits of armor, and all other imaginable ornamentation.
The Malta National Parliament also meets in the palace.
Next, Jeff and Faye watch the obligatory "Malta Experience" multimedia show, then take a break on the bastion
wall overlooking the sea.
Back in the main part of the city, Faye saves Jeff from a near disasterous encounter with fresh "whitewash" on a park bench
Jeff and Faye continue to St. John's Co-Cathedral. The place is almost indescribable.
Jeff's favorite is the inlaid marble tombstones which pave the floor of the cathedral.
Faye is especially amazed at the tapestries..
Restoration work is in progress here, as at almost all historic sites in Malta
In the evening, they take the ferry across rough waters in Marsamxett Harbor.
Fishing in the harbor is a popular, if
seemingly unproductive, activity.
Faye and Jeff stroll along the upscale Sliema waterfront at sundown.
