Tarxien, Marsaxlokk, and the Three Cities Jeff and Faye visit the Archaeological Museum in Valletta and then head out to the the ruins at Tarxien. They ride the bus to Marsaxlokk, and take a walk through the countryside. They ride back to Paola, and take a long walk through the three cities of Bormla, Isla, and Birgu. |
Jeff and Faye start the day with a visit to the Archaeological Museum in Valletta.
They see the famous "Sleeping Lady" that was found in the Hypogeum ruins.
A neolithic Maltese burial.
A model of the Tarxien temples that Jeff and Faye will visit next.
Jeff and Faye leave on the bus from the Valletta Main gate, and ride to the main square at Paola.
After a brief visit to the church at Paola, they walk to the site of the Tarxien neolithic temples.
Guardien of the Temples?
Faye and Jeff leave the Temples, and wait for the bus to Marsaxlokk. A group
of girls has just finished school, and join Faye and Jeff at the bus stop.
Jeff and Faye eat lunch on Marsaxlokk bay, enjoying the view of the colorful moored fishing boats.
They then take a long walk through the countryside, where wheat, potatoes, and onions seem to be the season's main crops.
The large village churches can always be seen on the horizon.
Watchdogs on rooftops greet Faye and Jeff from many of the country homes.
A car wreck - the logical result of exciting Maltese driving techniques.
Faye and Jeff board the bus and return to Paola, and start another long walk towards the Three Cities.
The Cottonera Lines are impressive fortifications surrounding the cities.
Industry and history are intermingled at the shipyards.
In Bormla, Jeff and Faye are suprised to see a horse led out of a stall in the city walls,
and be exercised beneath the fortifications.
In Birgu, they see a dry dock in action.
Birgu bustles in the evening as the residents come outside
to visit and play. The young-teen set meets for some football,
bike riding, and flirting. Rowing in the harbor is popular,
both for competition and recreation.
