Fortifications, Gozo Citadel Thursday, March 18, 1999
Gozo
A bus and a ferry take Jeff and Faye to the Island of Gozo. They spend the day of exploring the historic citadel and enjoying the view from its walls. They are almost stranded on the island when high winds cancel the regular ferry service.

St. Paul's Island Jeff and Faye travel to the island of Gozo. From the bus they can see St. Paul's island, where the apostle was shipwrecked.

St. Paul's Bay There is much (maybe too much) development around St. Paul's bay, the time-share condo capital of the island.

Surf on beach, Mellieha Bay. Mellieha bay has one of the largest sandy beaches in the country. Nobody is sunbating or swimming today...

Gozo Ferry Faye and Jeff arrive at the ferry terminus in Cirkewwa. Rumours are circulating that high winds may cause cancellation of the ferry service. But the Calypso manages to plow through the waves. Jeff and Faye board, and begin the rough channel crossing.

St. Mary's Tower, Comino Medieval tower on the island of Comino.

Ras I-Irqieqa, Comino Heavy swell along the Comino shore line.

Above Decks, Gozo Ferry Faye braves the wind and the rolling deck topside.

Mgarr, Gozo Mgarr Harbor - calm water at last. Faye and Jeff disembark and catch the bus for Victoria, the main town on Gozo.

Front Facade, Cathedral of the Assumption, Gozo Jeff and Faye spend most of the day in Victoria's Citadel, the old walled part of the city. The Gozo Cathedral is just inside the citadel gate. The cathedral has a unique trompe l'oeil dome painted on the ceiling.

Seagoing Ferry Ghawdexat Mgarr Harbor When Faye and Jeff return to the bus station, they hear that ferry service has been suspended due to the weather. They consider finding lodging for the night, but decide to go to the harbor first to see what is happening. Huge crowds are stranded on both sides of the channel, because it is the eve of a three-day weekend.

The ferry company decides to bring its big ocean-going ferry, the Ghawdex from Valletta to handle the task. They let the cold and tired travellers rest in the longe of one of the berthed ferries.

Finally, Faye and Jeff board the ship. A long, rough voyage takes them almost to their doorstep in Valletta. It is after midnight by the time they reach their room.
